Treasure

Someone I care deeply about said to me, “you’re a treasure.” There was a sincerity in his voice and a gleam in his eyes. Me a treasure, more like a disaster. I’m sitting in my room in total darkness, with a sadness I cannot shake, but those words replay in my head. They weigh heavy on my mind because of all the things that could have been said to me. Those were the words he chose. Looking back at it, there was a deeper meaning that I simply ignored. When I think of treasure, this definition comes to mind: “something of great worth or value.” However, it is often buried and hoarded when you think about it. It takes whoever seeks it on a journey, one that takes determination, perseverance, strength, and faith. I am a treasure buried deep in self-hatred and sadness. Uncovering all the things I’ve buried and learning to truly love myself.
